Dugges//Stillwater – Speyside Cacao

This is a collaboration between Swedish brewery Dugges, and US brewery Stillwater. This is an Imperial chocolate Stout made with Cacao, Coconut, and Vanilla, and then aged in Speyside whisky barrels. This beer was inspired by popular candies…this is literally a chocolate bar in a bottle.

The aroma releases loads of chocolate, and dark fruits. It poured a deep brown, with a pencil thin head that outlines the surrounding edge. The flavor corresponds closely with the aroma. Its filled with chocolate, molasses, and dark fruit notes of plum, raisin, fig, and dates. Similar to Raisinets. There is a touch of sweetness on the palate, but this wont leave your mouth feeling sticky. It has a mouth-coating silky body with light carbonation. I didn’t notice much if any of the vanilla, or coconut. And for it being 14% abv, I didn’t get any heat either. There was no bitterness, and it drank extremely smooth. This beer is really rich on the chocolate, but I wouldn’t consider this one a dessert beer as it is not really that sweet, and if you can handle the abv, you can easily drink more than one. I thought this was an amazing beer, and I believe it to be ready to drink right away rather than aging.
