Founded in 1989, Boulevard Brewing Company has become the largest specialty brewer in the Midwest. They produce fresh, flavorful beers using the finest traditional ingredients and the best of both old and new brewing techniques. Their current seasonal release is a Gose, brewed with dried Hibiscus flowers.
The beer pours a somewhat hazy salmon pink color with orange hues throughout. It looks very much like a rose wine. The 2 finger fluffy white head dissipates rather quickly and leaves a light lacing a top the beer.
From first whiff you will find evidence of the tartness of the beer. Citrus notes of lemon and grapefruit are plentiful. Right on the heels of the citrus are bright coriander aromas. Floral and earthy aromas are all very noticeable.
On the palate once again the tartness is evident. The salinity of the beer almost lifts the earthy and floral notes imparted from the hibiscus. A hint of citrus is detectable but not as notable as it was in the bouquet. The coriander is also mild but adds a certain brightness and complexity.
A very refreshing spring sipper! Boulevard has created a beer that is both unique and yet true to the style. Try pairing this one with aged Dutch Gouda, Ceviche, or grilled plums with a pinch of sea salt.
