Captain Lawrence Palate Shifter Imperial IPA

Capt Lawrence Palate Shifter IPACaptain Lawrence Brewing Company has been crafting a wide variety of beers in Elmsford, New York since 2005. Featuring year round, seasonal and specialty beers Captain Lawrence Brewing Company has almost two dozen beers in their portfolio. One of their year round offerings is an Imperial IPA named Palate Shifter.

The beer pours a slightly hazy golden color with orange highlights. The one finger white head shows great retention. Once the head finally dissipates a rather impressive lacing is left behind. The carbonation is also notable.

Hop forward aromas of pine resin and grapefruit pith leap from the glass. Citrus notes of lemon and tangerine are also present along with tropical notes of pineapple and mango. Floral and herbaceous hop notes are also detectable. A hint of pale malts can be found hiding beneath the hops.

The palate echoes the bouquet very well. Some pale malt notes provide a backdrop for all the hops. Flavors of pine resin hit first and are immediately followed with grapefruit, pineapple, mango and tangerine notes. Grassy and herbal notes take the lead from the fruit right before they surrender to bitter pine resin and grapefruit pith. The mouth is weighty and the alcohol is well hidden.

This is a great Imperial IPA. It is very well balanced but packs a hop punch! Try this one with stilton, B.L.T. with spicy mayo or papaya sorbet. PintRate-4
