Founded in 1994, Yards Brewing Company went from a garage-sized operation to a nationally recognized name. Producing two dozen different beers, Yards has something in their portfolio for every beer drinker. Their current seasonal is PYNK, a tart ale brewed with cherries and raspberries. Yards donates $1 from every case and 5 cents from every pint of PYNK sold, to breast cancer research and awareness.
The beer pours a beautiful…wait for it…pink color. The one finger light pink head shows some retention. Once the head dissipates, a light lacing remains atop the beer. A steady stream of small bubbles adds a certain liveliness to the overall appearance.
Aromas of tart raspberries and cherries can be detected along with notes of sweet jam like fruits. A funky yeasty note is also discernible along with a light floral note. Malt and sweet grain aromas round out the bouquet.
The palate starts with a sweet raspberry note that fades into an earthy yeast note. When the fruit emerges it has transitioned to a tart berry and cherry. A grainy wheat note carries the tart fruits through to the lingering finish.
When craft beer helps in the fight against breast cancer, we say cheers! Yards PYNK is a refreshing and pleasantly tart beer perfect for pairing with fresh mozzarella, bacon wrapped pork loin with cherries or panna cotta.
