Elysian Super Fuzz

Elysian Super FuzzThe Elysian Brewing Company was founded in 1995 by principals Dick Cantwell (President/Head Brewer), Joe Bisacca (CFO/Head of Operations) and David Buhler (Sales & Marketing Director). Since its founding, Elysian has grown to support five locations and offer dozens of different brews. One offering in their impressive portfolio is Super Fuzz, a Blood Orange Pale Ale available during the summer season.

The beer pours a hazy golden honey color with orange hues. The thin off white head dissipates rather quickly but leaves a sheet of light lacing behind. The carbonation level is notable by the constant rising bubbles in the glass.

Aromas of sweet blood orange hit right off the bat. Light hop aromas dominated by grapefruit offer balance and cut the sweetness of the orange a bit. Wheaty and pale malt notes back the citrus and offer the promise of a refreshing brew.

On the palate, sweet citrus notes of orange are intertwined seamlessly with pale malts. There is a wheaty note that complements the malts and adds weight to the mouthfeel. The deliciously refreshing orange flavors give way to mellow floral hop notes that eventually transition to a slightly bitter grapefruit note on the finish.

A great example of Pale Ale with a twist. Not overly complex and well balanced. Super Fuzz is a great summer session beer. Try this with blue cheese, a wedge salad with mojo chicken and mandarin oranges or a candied orange cheesecake. 3.5 Out of 5 Pints
