Clown Shoes Undead Party Crasher

Clown Shoes Undead Party CrasherClown Shoes Brewery is located in Ipswich, Massachusetts and is probably best known for stirring up a little controversy with its labels. The name itself seems a little peculiar but is well explained by Gregg Berman, the brewery’s founder. “Clowns are questionable but the shoes make me laugh. They remind me about humility and to find humor in life.” While Gregg finds humor in everyday life there is nothing funny about his beers…they are very serious. Clown Shoes currently has 10 year-round beers, with many other seasonal and limited release brews. Undead Party Crasher is an American Imperial Stout which is part of Clown Shoe’s year round portfolio.

The beer pours a rich black color. When held up directly against the light the beer remains black as night. The thin head is a light brown color and with a slight retention. Once the head has dissipated it leaves behind a patchy lacing.

The nose offers up aromas of rich chocolate and roasted coffee. Sweet notes of vanilla bean and caramel highlight the chocolate and coffee aromas. Dark dried fruit notes of prune and raisin add richness while a hint of sweet smoked meat adds a final layer of complexity.

On the palate there is a burnt note that gives way to a softer yet almost peppery hickory flavor. Coffee and bitter chocolate flavors dance across the palate and tango with the smoky notes. Molasses and caramel notes add certain level of sweetness which is compounded by the dark dried fruit flavors of raisins and prunes. The bitter chocolate notes linger on the finish and are carried by the heat from the alcohol.

A great beer from Clown Shoes. Watch out though, with a 10% ABV too much of this beer could crash the party. Try it with smoked Gouda, cocoa rubbed smoked pork ribs, or chocolate lava cake. PintRate-4
