Terrapin Wake n’ Bake

Terrapin Wake n' BakeTerrapin Beer Company was born when two brewers met while working together at a microbrewery in Atlanta. Looking around at what other breweries in the South were doing, Spike and John felt they could make a contribution. Realizing that anyone could make just another pale ale, brown ale or stout, Spike and John set their sights on crafting beers unlike any that were currently available. Terrapin has created some amazing brews since its inception, and one of the fan favorites is their Coffee Oatmeal Stout Wake n’ Bake.

The beer pours an impressive inky black color with dark chestnut brown hues when viewed directly against the light. The one finger mocha colored head dissipates rather quickly leaving behind no lacing to speak of.

On the nose aromas of dark roasted coffee and espresso reign supreme. A note of dark chocolate accentuates the coffee aroma while a note of milk chocolate lifts it. Notes of dark roasted malts add further depth. There is also a creamy caramel aroma that sweetens the deal.

On the palate the first thing you notice is the creamy velvety mouth-feel created by the oatmeal. Dark roasted coffee and bitter dark chocolate notes hit first. Riding on the back of the coffee and dark chocolate notes are sweeter flavors of milk chocolate, caramel and creamy vanilla. There is faint bready flavor that is hiding in the background. On the finish there is a slight drying effect. Also, flavors of espresso and dark chocolate linger.

A great beer from Terrapin. Perfect for the colder weather or whenever you are craving a cup of joe! This would be the perfect pair for blue cheese, grilled steak or cheesecake. 4 Out Of 5 Pints
