Lakefront Big Easy Imperial Maibock

Lakefront Big Easy Imperial MaibockLakefront Brewery is a leader in brewing the best beers from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Started in 1987, Lakefront Brewery has been brewing for more than 26 years and the Big Easy Imperial Maibock is their Spring offering in the seasonal line up.

The beer pours a lightly hazy light amber color with definitive orange hues. The head is thin and off white. It dissipates quickly to a light lacing. Carbonation bubbles continue to rise to the top of the glass, like champagne, and cause further lacing.

The nose is dominated by classic malty notes and clover honey sweetness. Fruity notes of orange and grape take to the forefront while light apple notes linger in the background. Floral and earthy hop notes make an appearance and aid in balancing the dominating sweet malt aromas.

In this fairly heavy brew there is an initial surge of sweet malts, as predicted by the nose. The malts take on both bready and biscuity flavors and the sweetness is marked by a distinct caramel note. Tangled in the sweetness is a faint dark fruit note reminiscent of figs. There is an underlying herbaceous note similar to a sweet green pepper. The citrus hop presence is subtle, balances the sweet malts and lingers slightly on the finish.

Overall, this is a great take on a Maibock displaying a fairly accurate depiction of the traditional style. Big Easy Imperial Maibock is a refreshing yet weight beer that begs to be drunk with spicy Cajun shrimp, chipotle sweet potato fries or carrot cake!4 Out Of 5 Pints
