G. Schneider & Sohn is a Bavarian brewing company founded in 1872 by Georg Schneider I and his son of the same name. They are known throughout the world for their Weiss or Weizen beers. Their Weizen Eisbock is a complex brew, boasting a whopping 12% ABV.
The beer pours a murky cola brown with a slight copper hue when viewed in the light. The head is thick, frothy and sandy tan in color. It continues to grow after the pour. The head is very stable but after time will dissipate to a beautiful lacing.
The nose of the beer is dominated by the scent of banana bread. Aromas of chocolate and sweet raisins intertwine harmoniously with the banana bread. There is a faint hint of heavy cream that settles in with the rich fruit notes. A sweet smoke note creeps in at the end and completes the bouquet.
On the palate this thick and creamy beer is laden with fruity notes of over ripe bananas and dark dried fruits. There is a faint yet discernible note of clove spice that is carried by the bready notes that greet you on the mid-palate. On the finish a slightly nutty boozy note lingers and creates a tongue tingling sensation when met with the beer’s forceful carbonation.
An amazing complex and balanced beer! This is NOT one for the novice drinker. Try pairing it with apple stuffed roasted pork lion or molten lava chocolate cake.
